Here are several ideas for finding employment in this job market:
1) Look at the company web sites of employers you'd like to work for. Tailor your resume and cover letter for the specific job.
2) Search job listings and maybe post an ad on Craigslist dot com.
3) Meet people and build your network. Be friendly with everyone you meet. Don't ask for a job right off the bat (that's important.) What value do you give your network without compensation? Build your network until someone offers you or tells you about a good job. You can volunteer and expect to see your network to grow.
4) If you have a liberal arts degree, consider careers in ESL, sales, political campaign work, a bartender, or a loss prevention agent. You should substantially more than minimum wage in these fields. You could also volunteer or ask to train at no pay.
5) If you have a liberal arts degree, or no skills or education, get a friend in a nearby town to teach you a skill like chimney sweeping or any useful skill.
6) Consider putting money into bicycles, kayaks, or any in demand equipment and rent it out. Buy stuff and rent it before you make other purchases, take classes, or make risky investments.
7) Try to supplement your income with Fiverr dot com. After a dozen or so good deals, Fiverr lets to add "extras" that really add up.
8) Start a small business doing something people ask you to do all the time, like running errands, fixing stuff, etc.
9) Take care of your physical health.
10) Start or join a MasterMind group. I bet you will find it very beneficial.
11) Avoid agencies, companies, or councilors that are bogus in any way. Do not give the said councilors any personal information, the names of friends and enemies, etc.
